What Makes tibboh Safer?
Many of the safety features built into tibboh mobile internet are not found in any other system.
Age-appropriate
The main sponsor, usually the parent or carer, sets the age for the content their child will have access to, giving them the flexibility to allow for individual differences in children’s development. Videos, DVDs, music, educational material and games are rated by the BBFC scheme.
Adult sponsors
The main person who sponsors a child’s or student’s tibboh account, usually a parent or carer, can also view all other adult sponsors.
School appropriate
Once the school validates the child’s identity however – a further check that tibboh accounts are only assigned to known children – the school’s content age (usually aligned to the age of the year group) will then be used as the basis for their web access.
Offline checks
Because email and internet communication isn't always secure, children making contact with trusted sponsors through tibboh, first have to communicate with them offline, sharing their identity before they can accept them as an online contact or friend. This minimises the possibility of user IDs being intercepted, or people pretending to be someone they are not.
Advanced security
tibboh uses highly advanced technology to keep children safe. Web filtering tool Netsweeper is used to check web content in real time, so that it is constantly updated. Netsweeper is used by the London Grid for Learning, which supplies broadband connectivity to most of London’s schools, and in many other schools around the country. In addition to its other security features it also works with the Internet Watch Foundation to block sexually explicit or exploitative websites and material.
Continuous monitoring
As well as Netsweeper, tibboh uses the enhanced security of its own FilterSafe Plus technology. This carries out continuous checks on how the system is being used, allowing tibboh to block attempts to bypass its security by malicious adults or adventurous children.
Safer social networking
tibboh is working on next generation technology which will analyse the language used on chat and social networking sites and alert the system to anything unusual or inappropriate. This will minimises the risk of cyber bullying or grooming and will allow children and young people to network online with their peers in relative privacy and increased safety.
