BBFC Classification

tibboh is a Member of BBFC online. This is a voluntary Scheme run by the British Board of Film Classification to give consumers clear information about the content of films, programmes and other video works, using BBFC classification symbols and consumer advice in a way that consumers are familiar with from DVDs and film going.  

The Scheme helps people to make informed decisions about their own and their children’s internet viewing, and seeks to ensure that works with an age-restricted classification (e.g. ‘12’, ‘15’, ‘18’’) are not supplied to any person below that age. Commercial digital entertainment content accessed or downloaded by children via tibboh mobile internet (such as films, DVDs, videos and some video games) is classified by the BBFC under the BBFC.online scheme using the same standards as used for cinema films and DVDs. The BBFC monitors the tibboh service to check that age restricted content is not being supplied to persons below the appropriate age.

For other content, such as some websites or user generated content (UGC), tibboh issues its own ratings using a classification system developed with the BBFC.  tibboh’s classifications are regularly reviewed by a panel of educational experts to make sure they keep up with the latest technology.

The BBFC classifications are:

• U - Universal (Suitable)
• PG - Parental Guidance (Should not disturb a child of eight or older)
• 12 (suitable for age 12 and above)
• 15 (suitable for age 15 and above)
• 18 (suitable for age 18 and above)

The BBFC classifications take into account issues such as the theme of the content, sex, nudity, violence, language, drugs and the likelihood that children might imitate the behaviour portrayed.
